Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, PhD, has expressed deep sorrow over the untimely passing of Somtochukwu Christelle (popularly known as Sommie) Maduagwu, the 29-year-old Arise TV anchor and correspondent who tragically lost her life in an armed robbery attack at her residence in Katampe, Abuja.
In a condolence message addressed to the Chairman of ARISE Media Group, Prince Nduka Obaigbena, and released through his Chief Press Secretary, Ekerete Udoh, Governor Eno described Sommie as “a brilliant, dedicated, and promising journalist whose eloquence, professionalism, and passion greatly enriched news anchorage and inspired countless viewers across the country.”
Governor Eno further emphasized that Sommie’s short but impactful career stood out as a symbol of excellence.
“She had a great future ahead of her. At just 29, she had traversed the worlds of beauty pageantry, law, and the media with brilliance, panache, and poise. Her demise is not only a great loss to ARISE Media Group and the Maduagwu family, but also to the Nigerian media as a whole,” Governor
Eno said.
He offered heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and the wider journalism community, while calling her death a painful reminder of the urgent need to address security concerns in the Federal Capital Territory and across Nigeria.
Sommie Maduagwu, known for her charm, intellect, and deep commitment to journalism, had already distinguished herself as a lawyer, pageant queen, and respected media personality. Her loss is deeply felt across the industry, and her memory will continue to inspire young journalists nationwide.
Newspot Nigeria joins in mourning the painful loss of Somtochukwu “Sommie” Maduagwu and extends its deepest sympathies to her family, colleagues, and loved ones.
