Uyo, Nigeria — The Akwa Ibom State Health Insurance Agency (AKSHIA) has rolled out a groundbreaking online self-enrollment platform for health insurance, giving citizens the power to join the Akwa Ibom health insurance scheme with just a click or by scanning a QR code.
This digital health insurance enrollment system is designed to remove the barrier of physical registration, making it possible for individuals to enroll in the scheme from anywhere in the world. The launch underscores Akwa Ibom’s growing reputation as a leader in digital healthcare innovation in Nigeria.
Since its inauguration in September 2024, the Akwa Ibom State Health Insurance Scheme has already recorded over 65,000 beneficiaries. The milestone reflects the administration’s push under Governor Pastor Umo Eno, PhD, to expand access to affordable healthcare services in Akwa Ibom State.
“This initiative is about bringing quality healthcare closer to the people. No one should be left behind because they cannot reach an office or fill endless paperwork,” a spokesperson for the Akwa Ibom State Health Insurance Agency said.
Citizens and residents can now register for health insurance in Akwa Ibom online by visiting https://akshia.com/portal/ or scanning the official QR code. With just a token fee, enrollees will gain access to affordable health coverage, subsidized medical care, and essential health services across accredited facilities in the state.
The scheme, branded under the slogan “Care for You, Care for All,” is expected to boost universal health coverage in Akwa Ibom, improve medical accessibility, and further position the state as a model for state health insurance in Nigeria.
As more states explore digital healthcare solutions and health insurance technology, Akwa Ibom is setting a benchmark that others may soon follow.
Newspot Nigeria will continue to monitor how this development shapes health outcomes in Nigeria, supports the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) agenda, and improves the overall healthcare delivery system in Akwa Ibom State.
