A group of All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders from Yobe South has appealed to President Bola Tinubu, accusing his administration of sidelining their zone in federal appointments.

The delegation, led by party chieftain Sambo Kakawa, visited the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday to register what they called “a glaring imbalance in the distribution of appointments” from Yobe State.

Kakawa said the exclusion was surprising, considering the zone’s electoral strength.

Critics of the President, including Senator Ali Ndume, the Northern Elders Forum, and other prominent northerners, have previously accused Tinubu of favouring certain regions over others in violation of Section 14(3) of the Constitution, which requires appointments to reflect federal character.

The Yobe South stakeholders argued that while Yobe East and Yobe North have produced ministers, directors-general, executive secretaries, and several board members, their own zone has nothing to show.

“In the game of politics, population and majority votes are key considerations for leaders. We hope President Tinubu will heed the voice of the majority people of Yobe South, recognising their significant contribution to the state’s population and electoral strength, and consider their aspirations for representation,” Kakawa added.

The group warned that continued neglect of Yobe South could affect the APC’s performance in the 2027 elections.

They also pushed for the appointment of Haruna Sardauna, a Yobe South indigene and Director General of Renewed Hope Ambassadors, as the next Minister of Humanitarian Affairs.

The stakeholders urged Governor Mai Mala Buni to intervene on their behalf.

Some State House officials who received the delegation assured them that their complaints would be reviewed and addressed.
