The Oyo State Government has firmly denied reports of an alleged verification exercise targeting pensioners, describing the circulating message as fake and misleading.
In a statement made available to the media on Friday, the State Commissioner for Establishments and Training, Prof. Salihu Adelabu, cautioned pensioners and the general public against falling victim to the fraudulent notice. The message had claimed that pensioners were to submit photocopies of their pension authority certificates, bank account details, and phone numbers to a specific office within the Ministry.
Prof. Adelabu discredited the message, describing it as “fraudulent and unauthorized,” and warned that such directives did not originate from the Ministry. He stressed that the Ministry maintains a structured system for disbursement and communication, and all official notices are issued through recognized and credible platforms.
“The Ministry will personally contact the next eligible individuals when it is their turn to receive their benefits,” Adelabu assured. He also advised pensioners to verify any suspicious notice before taking any action and to disregard any unofficial messages not endorsed by the government.
Reiterating the administration’s commitment to retirees, Adelabu said Governor Seyi Makinde remains devoted to ensuring transparency and accountability in all pension-related matters. He called on members of the public to play their part in protecting the elderly community from scams by spreading accurate and verified information.
The statement was electronically signed by Prince Dotun Oyelade, Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Oyo State.
Newspot Nigeria reports that this clarification comes at a time when pensioners across the country have become targets of fraudulent schemes exploiting their vulnerability and lack of digital access. The Oyo State Government’s quick response is seen as part of its broader commitment to safeguarding public welfare and reinforcing trust in state institutions.
