The conservative U.S.-based watchdog group, Accuracy in Media (AIM), has renewed its campaign against Northwestern University President Michael Schill, this time staging a mobile billboard protest ahead of Schill’s testimony before Congress on August 5th.

The bold billboard, driven through Evanston, Illinois—home of Northwestern University—bore provocative messages calling Schill “a coward” and “Hamas’s favorite university president.” This stunt is the latest in AIM’s ongoing crusade to pressure the embattled university leader to resign over what they describe as the administration’s “dangerous concessions to antisemitic protesters.”

AIM alleges that Northwestern’s leadership has capitulated to pro-Hamas student demonstrators, citing a controversial agreement reached last year in which the university reportedly promised to hire two Palestinian professors and offer five Palestinian undergraduates full scholarships. One of the hires, Professor Mkhaimar Abusada, is said to teach a weekly course on the “Palestinian National Movement,” and has affiliations with organizations—namely the Independent Commission for Human Rights (ICHR) and the Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR)—that a Washington Free Beacon review claims have ties to groups linked to antisemitic violence.

During a past appearance before the U.S. House Education and Workforce Committee, President Schill was questioned over the university’s response to antisemitic incidents, including an alleged case where a Jewish student was told to “go back to Germany and get gassed” during pro-Palestinian protests on campus. Schill acknowledged the report but noted that “it is being investigated.” He confirmed no suspensions or expulsions had occurred, citing ongoing investigations.

AIM President Adam Guillette personally took to the streets of Evanston to gauge public reaction to the billboard. While met with some hostility, he reported support from others, with one passerby telling him, “I saw your videos, man. Keep up the good work.”

AIM has since launched SchillForHamas.com, a platform encouraging citizens to contact Northwestern’s Board of Trustees and demand Schill’s resignation for “allowing a professor on campus with alleged ties to terrorist organizations.”

In a statement accompanying the protest, AIM reaffirmed its broader mission: “Radical activists have taken control of every facet of our culture—from classrooms to boardrooms. If we don’t fight back now, we risk losing the country we love.”

Schill has not issued a direct public response to AIM’s latest protest. However, the pressure underscores the broader national debate surrounding campus speech, academic freedom, and university responses to global political conflicts.

As this story continues to unfold, Newspot Nigeria will monitor developments, particularly as they intersect with global academic policy, freedom of expression, and the future of university leadership in contentious times.
