Bende, Abia State – Dr. Emeka Kalu, a prominent indigene of Bende Local Government Area in Abia State, has officially declared his intention to contest for the Abia North Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections. In a media statement issued from Lagos, the seasoned philanthropist and business leader described himself as the “most prepared and qualified” among all contenders for the seat.
Dr. Kalu, who currently serves as the President of the E.C.K Foundation, emphasized that his bid is rooted in a long-standing commitment to grassroots development, integrity in leadership, and tangible results in both the public and private sectors.
“Abia North needs a Senator who is not just experienced but ready to deliver from day one,” he said. “While others offer promises, I bring a record of performance—of lifting communities, building capacity, and championing inclusive development.”
Citing his deep involvement in philanthropic initiatives and economic empowerment programs across the senatorial district, Kalu stated that his leadership model is built on accessibility, accountability, and action. He noted that his foundation has for years been providing scholarships, community health interventions, and small business grants aimed at transforming lives at the grassroots.
He further criticized the era of “political placeholders,” urging voters to consider competence and vision over partisan loyalty. “We’ve had leaders who made noise but achieved little. What we need now is someone with a tested track record—someone the people can trust to stand for them and with them.”
Kalu’s declaration comes amid growing calls in Abia North for fresh representation that prioritizes the everyday realities of constituents, from deteriorating infrastructure to youth unemployment and marginalization in national projects.
If elected, Dr. Kalu pledged to sponsor people-centered legislation, attract sustainable development projects, and create direct engagement platforms between his office and the electorate.
