Military neutralises bandits, destroy camps in fresh OPWS operation across Benue

Troops of the Joint Task Force Operation Whirl Stroke, OPWS, have recorded a major breakthrough in the fight against armed banditry following a coordinated clearance operation across volatile communities in Benue State.

The operation, carried out by Sector 1 troops on Wednesday, targeted notorious hotspots including Akure, Ako-Ivaan, Iorkyol, Ugbaba, Agber, Tse Nyikwgh, and Tse .

During the mission, troops encountered armed resistance but swiftly overpowered the assailants, neutralizing one bandit through superior firepower.

The military also discovered and destroyed three bandits’ camps, effectively dismantling key operational bases used by criminal elements.

Items recovered from the slain bandit included an AK-47 rifle with a magazine loaded with 26 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a Tecno phone, illicit drugs, and ₦2,000 in cash.

The operation has been hailed as a significant step toward restoring security and stability in the region, with locals reportedly returning to their farms as military presence boosts public confidence.

Addressing the troops after the successful operation, Force Commander of OPWS, Major General Moses Gara, praised the soldiers’ gallantry, discipline, and tactical precision.

He encouraged them to sustain their momentum and remain vigilant until the mission of lasting peace in Benue State is fully achieved.

The troops are expected to continue aggressive patrols and clearance missions across the operational theatre in a bid to dismantle remaining bandit strongholds.
