Sani said that Shettima spoke in tongues and therefore should have known better that he couldn’t control its interpretation or misinterpretation.

In a post on X, Sani wrote: “When you speak in tongues, utter a phrase or a proverb, you can’t control its interpretation or misinterpretation. My Brother the VP should know this rule better.”

The comments come amid public debate over a speech delivered by Shettima during the public presentation of the book ”OPL 245: The Inside Story of the $1.3 Billion Oil Block” by former Attorney General of the Federation, Mohammed Bello Adoke.

Many had interpreted Shettima’s references to attempts made to remove him as Governor of Borno State during the President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration as a veiled comparison to the political crisis in Rivers State, where President Bola Tinubu recently declared a state of emergency and Governor Siminalayi Fubara was suspended from office.

However, the Vice President’s office has since issued a statement clarifying that his remarks were taken out of context and not intended as criticism of President Tinubu’s actions.

The presidency maintained that the VP was offering a historical reflection and reaffirmed his full support for the President’s intervention in Rivers State.
