The Oyo State Government has approved the distribution of appointment letters to 116 newly engaged staff at the Oyo State College of Nursing and Midwifery, Eleyele, Ibadan, in a major push to fill academic and administrative vacancies at the institution.
This was disclosed by the Provost of the College, Dr. Gbonjubola Owolabi, during a ceremony held on Thursday to commemorate a donation of furniture by the 1976–1979 alumni set, popularly known as Set X.
According to Dr. Owolabi, the approved staff appointments cut across several key cadres, including Legal Advisers, Senior Lecturers, Sickbay Nurses, General Nursing Studies (GNS) Lecturers, and Administrative Officers. Other roles approved include Higher Executive Officers, Store Officers, Assistant Executive Officers, Computer Analysts, Technical Officers, Motor Drivers, Craftsmen, and Clerical Officers.
In addition, the state government has confirmed the substantive appointments of four principal officers: the Registrar, Librarian, Bursar, and Director of Works—further stabilizing the leadership of the college.
Dr. Owolabi lauded Governor Seyi Makinde for his consistent and visible support, noting that the recent donation by the alumni and growing student numbers made the timing of the appointments critical to meeting academic needs.
She also revealed that the college had recently secured full accreditation from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria for its core programs following a successful evaluation in September/October 2024.
Highlighting the institution’s digital transformation, Dr. Owolabi pointed to the launch of an online student clearance platform, which eliminates the need for students to be physically present for clearance procedures.
Speaking on behalf of Set X, Elder Emmanuel Kunle Oladejo praised the College’s achievements and urged the Provost and management team to begin working towards transforming the institution into a degree-awarding college. He also encouraged students to strive for academic and professional excellence.
Newspot Nigeria will continue to follow education developments across the state as part of its commitment to spotlighting impactful governance and institutional reform.
