Suspected gunmen kidnap three Fulani women in Kwara village

Three Fulani women have been kidnapped by gunmen who attacked Awi village, a Fulani/Hausa settlement near Omu-Aran in Kwara State.

The attack, which happened around 1:00 a.m on Sunday was reported by a local community leader, Danbare Sarki Fulani.

This was revealed in a post on Monday by security analyst, Zagazola Makama, on his verified X handle.

According to him, the attackers opened fire randomly during the raid before taking the three women away.

“The victims have been identified as Halimi Kadiri, Gaaje Yusuf, and Maria Isah, a nursing mother. All said to be of the Fulani Bororo ethnic group,” Makama wrote.

Following the report of the incident around 10:00 a.m., a joint team of security operatives and local vigilantes was deployed to the area.

“They immediately began a search in the nearby forests to locate the victims.

“The Anti-Kidnapping Squad (AKS) in Omu-Aran, along with Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) from surrounding communities and vigilante groups, also launched a coordinated search-and-rescue operation,” the post added.

Police sources said investigation is ongoing and assured the public that efforts are being made to rescue the women and restore peace to the area.
