However, the state government has linked the unrest to political sabotage, accusing some opposition figures of deliberately fueling the crisis to discredit the administration.

Speaking on a live radio programme “Gwamnati da Jama’a” aired on Rahma Radio, the state Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Muhammad Tajuddeen Othman, alleged that certain politicians were behind the sponsorship of youth gangs as part of a calculated political agenda.

“The government is not folding its arms. We are taking serious steps to address this challenge by engaging the youth productively through employment opportunities and access to education,” the commissioner said.

He also assured residents of the government’s commitment to restoring peace, adding that a dedicated committee set up by the state government to tackle the menace of gang violence, under the leadership of the Commissioner for Science and Technology, Dr. Yusuf Ibrahim Kofar Mata, is working round-the-clock to boost security in the state.

It will be recalled that between Wednesday night and Saturday morning, multiple gang-related clashes, including incidents of phone snatching, led to the deaths of at least two young persons in Kano city.

The violence left residents living in fear, disrupting daily activities in several areas. Hon. Tajuddeen reaffirmed that safeguarding lives and property remains one of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s top priorities—one he committed to even before assuming office.
