Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has called on corps members to support the agricultural initiatives of the state government for the sake of posterity.
The governor made the call on Friday while declaring open the orientation course for the 2025 Batch A Stream II National Youth Service Corps, NYSC members deployed to the state.
The ceremony, which was held at the permanent orientation camp in Sibre, marked the beginning of the corps members’ one-year mandatory national service.
Emphasising the importance of food security, he also called on the camp officials to join forces with the newly posted corps members to support agricultural initiatives across the state.
Represented by the Secretary to the Government of the State, SSG, Barrister Gebon T. Kataps, Governor Kefas noted that the state is becoming a hub for investment, development, and growth.
He urged corps members to identify sectors where they could make an impact, particularly those intending to remain in the state beyond their service year.
He also encouraged the corps members to immerse themselves fully in the orientation activities, urging them to interact with camp officials, facilitators, and fellow participants.
Above all, the need for them to also maintain discipline, remain law-abiding, and steer clear of social vices such as cultism, drug abuse, and the misuse of social media, the governor believed, can no longer be overemphasised.
The governor commended the management of the NYSC and collaborating agencies for organising a seamless orientation course and pledged the continued support of the state government toward the success of the scheme.
