Properties worth millions of naira have been destroyed as a result of fire that ravaged a residential building in Oyo State.
The incident according to sources occurred at 45 lane 2b, Agogbo phase 2 Fola Tyre in Oyo on Saturday.
Our correspondent gathered that a plasma (tv) plugged when not in use caught fire when Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) restored power supply in the area.
Two rooms in the residential building were affected, while properties worth millions of naira were said to have been destroyed in the inferno.
Chairman of Oyo State Fire Service Hon Maroof Akinwande confirmed the incident on Sunday.
Akinwande in a statement made available to Newspot said, “The fire incident was reported at exactly 19:15hrs on Saturday 24th May 2025. The agency’s officers led by ACFS Tijani Bamidele promptly deployed to the scene of the incident.
“On getting to the scene of the incident, we met the living room of a two (2) bedroom flat engulfed by fire. The fireman swiftly swung into action and the fire was curtailed and restricted from spreading to the other parts of the building.
“The root cause of the fire was the plasma (tv) plugged when not in use and caught fire when IBEDC restored power supply.
“No casualty was recorded; the fire affected only the living room of the building and officers of the agency were able to save properties worth millions of naira.”
