The recent remarks by the esteemed former Senate President and Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees, Adolphus Wabara, speak truth to power at a critical juncture in our nation’s democratic journey. While the APC governors have the constitutional right to endorse President Bola Tinubu for a second term, it is imperative to remember that the ultimate power rests not in the hands of a select few, but with the Nigerian electorate — the millions of citizens who bear the consequences of governmental policies every day.
Endorsements from within party structures are not new, but history has taught us that such declarations do not automatically translate into popular support. In 2027, just like in every election cycle, Nigerians will have the opportunity to assess the performance of President Tinubu and the APC administration against the promises made in 2023. They will weigh the impact of policies on the economy, education, healthcare, security, and the standard of living. These real issues, not political endorsements, will determine who earns their mandate.
Democracy thrives when the voices of the people resonate louder than the proclamations of political elites. The PDP, under the guidance of statesmen like Senator Wabara, must continue to champion the cause of the ordinary Nigerian — advocating for empowerment, transparency, equity, and national unity.
As we look toward 2027, let us reaffirm our faith in the democratic process. Let the debate be driven by issues, not endorsements. Let the people decide — freely, fairly, and without intimidation. Because in the end, sovereignty belongs to the people, and only they can choose the future of Nigeria.
