US president, Donald Trump, has called on voters in Florida to back the congressional campaign of State Senator, Randy Fine.
Fine is a staunch supporter of Israel and has made antagonising Muslims and Palestinians a core part of his political identity.
“America First Patriot Randy Fine is running to represent the Wonderful People of Florida’s 6th Congressional District!
“A highly successful, Harvard educated businessman, and greatly respected State Legislator, Randy has been a tremendous Voice for MAGA,” Trump wrote in a social media post, referring to his political movement, Make America Great Again.
Florida will be holding special elections on Tuesday to fill two vacant US House of Representatives seats.
Fine is running in the 6th Congressional District, which is normally considered a safe Republican seat.
The politician, who has a long history of anti-Muslim statements, sparked outrage earlier this year when he appeared to praise the killing of Aysenur Ezgi Eygi, a US activist who was fatally shot by the Israeli military in the occupied West Bank.
“Throw rocks, get shot. One less #MuslimTerror ist. #FireAway,” Fine wrote in a social media post in September.
