Troops repel ISWAP attack on military base in Borno

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have successfully repelled an attempted attack by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists on the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Mayanti, Banki, within Bama Local Government Area of Borno State.

According to intelligence sources, the attack occurred around 1:15 a.m. on Sunday, March 17.

Soldiers at the base engaged the terrorists in a fierce firefight, forcing them to retreat.

According to Zagazola Makama, a security analyst revealed that no casualties were reported among the troops.

Shortly after, at approximately 2:03 a.m., a reinforcement team heading towards the base encountered an ambush by Boko Haram/ISWAP insurgents along the Banki Junction–Mayanti road.

The terrorists had planted two Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) along the route to hinder the troops’ movement.

A Quick Reaction Force, led by the unit commander, responded swiftly, engaging the insurgents and forcing them to flee.

During the encounter, two soldiers sustained injuries.

Military authorities reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining security in the region, vowing to intensify operations against insurgent threats.
