In a significant development, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has summoned Mr. Adebayo Adeleke, the former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters in Osun State, for questioning regarding allegations of fraud. The invitation, confirmed by Adeleke’s media aide, Mr. Kazeem Mohammed, is part of an ongoing investigation linked to the renovation of Primary Healthcare Centres during the administration of ex-governor Adegboyega Oyetola.
Mohammed stated that Adeleke would honor the ICPC’s invitation shortly. He clarified that Adeleke was not arrested, as some social media reports suggested. The ICPC officials delivered the invitation letter to him while he was departing from a radio station in Osogbo, the state capital. “He received the letter and promised to honor it at a later date. Those that brought the letter were very civil,” Mohammed remarked.
Earlier, the Osun State Government submitted a petition to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) calling for a probe into the contracts awarded for the renovations, which reportedly involved several prominent All Progressives Congress figures, including Adeleke. In response to these allegations, Adeleke asserted that he had resigned from the company implicated in the renovations and accused the current administration, led by Governor Ademola Adeleke, of targeting him for exposing administrative infractions.
The ICPC’s investigation highlights ongoing concerns about transparency and accountability in government contracts and expenditures in Osun State.
