In a recent statement, Senator Ademola Adeleke, the Governor of Osun State, addressed concerns regarding his use of a walking stick during official engagements. The governor emphasized that his walking stick serves as a traditional symbol associated with his role as the Asiwaju of Edeland, rather than a reflection of his health status.
Speaking to reporters, Governor Adeleke reassured the public of his good health, stating, “I am hale and hearty. I am not sick in whatever way.” He elaborated that the use of a walking stick is a common practice in many regions of Nigeria, signifying dignity and respect, particularly among high-ranking individuals.
The governor recounted that his first walking stick was a gift from Douye Diri, the Governor of Bayelsa State, during an official visit. He mentioned that at a recent Governors’ Forum meeting in Asaba, all governors received and utilized shining walking sticks, further normalizing their use in official contexts.
Governor Adeleke pointed out that in the South East and South South regions, walking sticks are integral to cultural identity and daily life. He urged his constituents to rest assured of his well-being, emphasizing that there is no cause for concern regarding his health.
As the governor continues to fulfill his duties with dignity, the clarification serves to reinforce his commitment to transparency and communication with the people of Osun State.
