Sokoto State, Nigeria – In a significant move toward youth empowerment and poverty alleviation, His Excellency Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, PhD, FCNA, has successfully graduated 500 youths from a comprehensive tailoring training program. This initiative, spearheaded by the Department of Community Development under the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, underscores the governor’s unwavering commitment to fostering self-reliance among the youth.

During the graduation ceremony, Governor Aliyu reiterated his administration’s dedication to implementing programs that address poverty and mitigate youth restiveness in society. He announced plans to procure vehicles aimed at enhancing transportation services across the state, which will ultimately contribute to job creation and economic growth.
The governor encouraged the graduates to leverage their newly acquired tailoring skills, especially with the Sallah season approaching, a period known for increased demand for tailoring services. He emphasized the importance of making judicious use of the skills to ensure profitability and sustainability in their businesses.

Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alh. Ibrahim Daɗi Adare, praised the administration’s various empowerment initiatives, describing them as unprecedented in the state’s history.
In his welcome address, Hon. Garba Aliyu Maitumbi, Special Adviser on Community Development, expressed gratitude to Governor Ahmed Aliyu and party leader, Sen. Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, for their progressive leadership that resonates with the aspirations of the people. Nuruddeen Muhammad Mahe, SSA Strategic Communication at the Governor’s Office, stated, “This event symbolizes our commitment to empowering the youth and providing them with the tools they need to succeed.”

A highlight of the ceremony was the distribution of tailoring tools and the provision of takeoff grants to selected beneficiaries, further facilitating their entry into the business world.
The event drew attendance from notable figures, including Sen. Dr. Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, the Speaker of the Sokoto State House of Assembly, and other dignitaries, who all shared in the celebration of this impactful initiative.
