The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on its members and supporters to actively participate in the local government elections scheduled for February 22, organized by the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC). This directive aims to encourage citizens to exercise their democratic right to vote.
In a statement released by the party’s media office, the PDP condemned recent remarks made by the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Lateef Fagbemi, regarding the elections. The party characterized these comments as an attempt by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) administration, led by President Tinubu, to undermine the democratic process in Osun State, which had previously voted out the APC in the 2022 governorship elections.
The PDP emphasized that elections are a fundamental right in a constitutional democracy and should not be subjected to the whims of individuals like Fagbemi, who they accused of harboring grievances following the defeat of his party in the last elections. They pointed out Fagbemi’s history of unsuccessful legal battles, including his representation of former governor Gboyega Oyetola, who lost the governorship election.
The party urged its members to conduct themselves peacefully during the electoral process, reinforcing their commitment to a fair and democratic election.
“Let us come out en masse to vote and assert our rights as citizens,” the statement concluded.
As the February 22 elections approach, the Osun State PDP is poised to ensure a smooth and peaceful voting process, urging all to participate actively.
