Hamas has announced it will investigate allegations regarding the remains of Shiri Bibas, after Israeli authorities determined that the body handed over in her name was not hers.
In a statement, the terror group said it was “surprised” by Israel’s reaction and promised to “examine these allegations very seriously”, pledging to release the findings of its investigation.
Hamas reiterated its claim that Bibas and her two young sons, Ariel and Kfir, were killed in an Israeli airstrike and suggested there may have been a mix-up when retrieving remains from the rubble.
Israeli officials, however, have confirmed that Ariel and Kfir were murdered in captivity by terrorists.
Additionally, Hamas demanded the return of the Palestinian woman’s body that was mistakenly sent to Israel in place of Bibas.
Despite the dispute, Hamas stated that it remains committed to implementing the current ceasefire-hostage release deal and vowed to uphold all obligations, claiming it has no interest in retaining hostage remains.
