Fr. Ebube Muonso has made serious allegations regarding the death of Hon. Justice Azuka, a member of the Anambra State House of Assembly representing Onitsha 1 under the Labour Party. He claims that Azuka was a victim of political assassination because he did not belong to the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
In his statements, Muonso accused Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration and the Anambra State Police of complicity in protecting the individuals responsible for Azuka’s murder. He alleged that influential figures bribed the police, which led to the escape of two suspects arrested in connection with the lawmaker’s killing. “It is unacceptable that two major suspects could escape from custody amidst a functioning government, indicating a clear political cover-up,” he stated.
Fr. Muonso called on the people of Onitsha to rise up and demand justice for Azuka, emphasizing that his spirit would not find peace unless those responsible were brought to justice. The police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the escape of the suspects but offered little clarity on the circumstances, stating they were supposedly assisting in a different operation. This explanation, coming eight days after the escape, has only fueled public suspicion and concern.
