Former Osun PDP Caretaker Chairman, Dr. Akindele Adekunle, has allegedly uncovered plans to disrupt Saturday’s local government elections in Osun State. According to Dr. Akindele, there are alleged plans to deploy hoodlums dressed in police uniforms to interfere with the electoral process.
In a statement released on Thursday, Dr. Akindele claimed that these individuals have been imported from neighboring states and are allegedly being sheltered in various locations across Osun, including Iragbiji, Ikire, Osogbo, Ila, Iwo, Ilesa, and Ile-Ife. These locations are reportedly provided by APC chieftains.
The PDP chieftain further alleged that the tactical force deployed from Abuja serves as a cover for potential violence rather than maintaining peace. According to his statement, there are alleged plans to target PDP leaders and electoral officials to prevent the successful conduct of the election.
“We have information suggesting that a list of PDP leaders and members has been drafted for indiscriminate arrest or worse,” Dr. Akindele stated in the press release. He expressed concern about what he described as the Police Force’s alleged partisan stance in the matter.
Despite these alleged threats, Dr. Akindele urged Osun voters to exercise their constitutional rights and participate in Saturday’s local government elections. He emphasized that voting remains a fundamental right protected by the 1999 Constitution.
The allegations come as Osun State prepares for its local government elections, scheduled to take place this Saturday.
