In a major blow to international drug trafficking networks, the U.S. Coast Guard has successfully intercepted cocaine worth approximately N416 billion ($275 million) off the Pacific Coast. The operation, conducted by the crew of Coast Guard Cutter Waesche, resulted in the seizure of about 16,900 kilograms (37,256 pounds) of cocaine.

The maritime operation, which involved 11 separate vessel interceptions, took place in international waters near the coasts of Mexico, Central and South America. The operations were carried out between December 2024 and early February 2025, culminating in the offloading of the seized narcotics at San Diego port.

Captain Tyson Scofield, commanding officer of Cutter Waesche, highlighted the crew’s exceptional performance despite facing significant challenges during the patrol. The successful operation has prevented a substantial quantity of illegal drugs from potentially reaching various destinations, including West African transit routes.
