The Brazil international enjoyed a superb first season in Manchester but suffered an alarming dip in form last year – leading Jamie Carragher to claim ‘the football has left him’.

While remaining part of Erik ten Hag’s plans earlier in the campaign, Casemiro’s role has been reduced under Ruben Amorim.

Manuel Ugarte has been preferred to the former Real Madrid star with youngster Toby Collyer also given the nod in recent weeks with Casemiro an unused substitutes in eight of United’s last 10 league matches.

United are desperate to raise funds this month with clubs interested in signing the 32-year-old. Roma are among those with AS reporting unnamed Premier League sides have also enquired into his availability. Interest from Saudi Arabia also remains.

While Amorim has made it clear Casemiro is not in his immediate plans, the midfielder is happy to see out the season at United and has put offers to leave the club to one side for now.

Rather than try force his way out, the report claims Casemiro has gracefully accepted his situation at the club and is understanding of Amorim’s preference for other players.

Casemiro is also reluctant to abandon the club during a turbulent period and is ready to wait for his chance to help and repay the ‘warm affection’ United supporters have held for him.

While a summer exit is very likely, the veteran appears unlikely to move this month.

Amorim’s preference for a high intensity game has resulted in minutes drying up for a number of players, including elder statesmen Casemiro and Christian Eriksen with Marcus Rashford perhaps the biggest casualty.

Discussing Casemiro’s situation, Amorim said this week: ‘We understand that Casemiro has other things nowadays.

‘The intelligence he has, understanding the game, understanding where the ball is going to fall but we’re in a league that I can see, even in European competitions, the difference in intensity is big.

‘And so, I feel that this team also needs players with a very high intensity. And sometimes we don’t have that and sometimes that difference in characteristic can lead one player or another to play.

‘Even the fact that the group has a certain characteristic as a group. I needed some players in certain positions with a slightly different pace.

‘But we all know the quality Casemiro has and everything he won. And so, I have nothing to say about that. It’s just a choice.’
