I am almost having a mental meltdown about what we the Yorubas are doing to ourselves on the Social Media
I daily witness a barrage of talkshows and predictions by Yoruba Televangelists and Pastors making predictions which ridicule and savage our traditional Institutions and cultural identity and values by abusing and defaming our royal fathers and elders like the Oonirisa and Arole Oodua and individuals like Afe Babalola and even our President and politicians as those Platforms compete to make money off their YouTube Marketing and advertising tv channels which are now two for a penny in Nigeria.
Most notorious of those bloggers I have noticed lately are Almaroof, Akandaoro Awikonko , Babagbagede Imo TV and Esabod in particular which has gone far beyond the call of duty and common sense to start abusing and insulting the Oonirisa in a very offensive way.
Yes, the man is young by calendar age but he is Arole Oodua and therefore a Methuselah by History and tradition and he deserves our respect and loyalty.
I have never found any other tribe or Geopolitical Zone doing that to their own people and leaders.
Kabiyesi the current Timi of Ede has been getting an earful lately and rightly so for his disgraceful visit to Ilorin when he was caught on camera in a taboo kneeling down to pay homage to the Emir of Ilorin.
He will be lucky to survive the aftermath of that shameful display of poor traditional judgement on his part.
Kabiyesi Timi Agbale Olofa Ina Oba Laoye Adetoyese would never have committed such a Heresy or blunder in his life time.
I knew him well when I was a teacher at Queen’s School, Ede in 1963 under Ms. Ruby Dunn as Principal while Oba Laoye’s Olori was our Music teacher and a colleague.
Many of us still hold traditional title of the Oonirisa, or the Alaafin of Oyo and other first class royal fathers in Yoruba Land including the Deji of Akure in very high esteem and cannot condone or tolerate the way and manner some of our bloggers abuse and curse our traditional rulers out, as if they are their errand boys.
We also expect the royal fathers to respect themselves and to conduct themselves in a way that show their sensitivity,at all times, to their leadership positions in society
I give an example of myself and what I have recently experienced from a Business owned by the Oonirisa.
I have shown interest in buying one of the properties at the newly opened Ojaja Park in Akure, my home town.
I have encouraged few of my fiends to do the same because I have great confidence in Arole Oodua Oba Eniitan Babatunde Adeyeye Ojaja the Second who owns the properties and I believe he was going to pick the right people to handle the sale of those properties in a way that does not tarnish his own reputation as one of the most senior royal fathers in Nigeria and certainly the first and the most senior in the Yoruba Southwest.
I have been in a running battle with the HRH woman placed in charge of the sale of those properties in Akure by the Arole Oodua himself.
If care is not taken, what is going on at the Park has the potential to irredeemably damage the reputation of the Kabiyesi and one of his Olori’s who demands in collusion with the Sales Manager that those of us who want to pay in Dollars must, first of all, make their payment thru the nameless Olori who could them make her own cut by claiming some fluctuations in the Dollar value. I have paid in full for the property and I am waiting for the keys to be handed over my surrogates in Akure.
I took liberty of my closeness to Adimula Deji Odundun Asodedero who is my cousin and In-law to let him know of my interest in that property and my full payment for it
The so- called Olori of Ojaja wants to do that to make several millions of Naira over and above the stated price of the properties by claiming fluctuations in current exchange. That was why I chose the balance of 17 million in Naira direct to the Wema Bank Branch of Unilag which has been acknowledged by the Sales Manager. All of what I am saying here may be unknown to the Kabiyesi, but I showed interest in the property because the Kabiyesi
It is a horrible experience to have the name of the Oonirisa and Arole Oodua tarnished like that for a dubious Business transaction he may not even be aware of, in his position, as the big Boss “Iwerepe gbara re gba Igi Oko” I was born in the Palace and I valued the Monarchy too much.
That has been my experience as one of the buyers of those properties.
It will be a very sad day, if a Business in which our beloved and highly respected Oonirisa is involved, cannot be trusted to do a clean business or if our royal father is complicit in defrauding some of his own subjects due to some ignorance on his part.
If you see something, say something before you become part of the problem.
That was not the kind of outrage I would like to see in my King and my royal father, the Oonirisa and Arole Oodua whose biological father, Prince Ropo, I know very well, as we are age group and we both come from Royal family, he from Ile Ife and myself from Akure.
I love the young man so much and I would not like to see his reputation soiled or going down the tube for fraud in his Business Dealings on many of his investments in Nigeria which Nigerians should applaud because he has chosen to invest his money in Nigeria rather than taking it overseas like many of our leaders used to do.
I am more than happy to play the role of a whistleblower in that regard to alert the Kabiyesi about what is going on in his beautiful Park at Akure.
I intend to send the Kabiyesi a copy of this article and I would appreciate any of you from Ile Ife who is closer to him than I am, to please help to draw his attention or that of his biological father to this observation by someone who thinks a whole world of him and has gone down to the mat to defend him in his absence as an upright man and a honest Businessman and a good role model for all of us.
I rest my case.
