A joint operation led by operatives from the Department of State Security has successfully rescued four more kidnapped victims in Sokoto State.

The victims were freed after a raid on the bandits’ hideout, where the operation took place.

According to a statement from Garba Mohammed, Director of Press Affairs at the Deputy Governor’s Office, the kidnappers initially demanded a ransom of N50m, later reducing it to N10m

Malam Umar Dankoli, one of the victims, explained that after several days, only one million naira was raised through contributions, which was taken to the bandits by his eldest son about nine days ago.

However, upon arriving at the bandits’ camp in Malafana Bush, his son was also held captive, and the bandits insisted on a N10m ransom for their release.

Malam Umar Dankoli stated that they remained in the hands of the bandits until they were rescued by the joint security team during a raid on the camp.

Commenting on the operation, Colonel Abdulhamid Usman (rtd), the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, attributed the recent successes in combating banditry to the strong support provided by Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto to security agencies.

He noted that in the past eleven days, significant progress has been made in tackling banditry in the state.

Colonel Abdulhamid also urged the public to continue providing useful information to security agencies to help achieve further success in the fight against crime.
