Pacific Palisades, California – January 7, 2025

In a swift response to a raging wildfire, evacuation orders have been issued for a significant portion of the Pacific Palisades area, extending up to the Santa Monica border. The Los Angeles Fire Department confirmed that the fire ignited around 10:30 a.m. near 1190 N Piedra Morada Dr. and has quickly expanded to over 200 acres in less than an hour.

Residents from the Santa Monica Canyon to the intersections of Ocean and San Vicente are urged to evacuate immediately as the fire poses a severe threat, particularly in the rugged terrain characterized by limited access roads and residential properties nestled in the hills.

While the City of Santa Monica is closely monitoring the situation, officials have stated that there is currently no direct threat to Santa Monica. However, they advise residents to avoid non-essential travel on Pacific Coast Highway and Sunset Blvd to facilitate emergency response efforts.

The County of Los Angeles Fire Department (LACoFD) is implementing an augmented staffing plan, deploying additional ground and aerial resources across Los Angeles County in anticipation of critical fire weather conditions. A significant wind event is expected to affect the region, with gusts reaching up to 100 mph in the mountains and 70 mph in coastal and valley areas.

With high wind warnings set to take effect, the fire situation is expected to escalate, prompting residents to prioritize their safety and adhere to evacuation orders. Emergency services remain on high alert, and residents are reminded to keep 911 lines available for life-threatening emergencies.

As the situation unfolds, updates will be provided to ensure community safety and preparedness.
