A plane crash in western Mexico on Sunday has claimed the lives of about seven people.
The plane, identified as a Cessna 207, crashed in a dense forest in Jalisco, western Mexico.
The ill-fated aircraft took off from La Parota in the neighboring state of Michoacán before it went down.
Posting on social media, Jalisco Civil Protection reported that the aircraft crashed in terrain that was difficult to access.
According to the agency, initial authorities at the scene “reported a preliminary count of seven people dead.”
It stated: “This Sunday afternoon, a Cessna 207 small plane from La Parota, Michoacán, suffered an accident, crashing in a wooded area that is difficult to access.
“Jalisco Civil Protection personnel, in coordination with authorities from Quitupan and Mazamitla, went to the site, near the town of Palo Verde.
“Police authorities who initially arrived preliminarily reported the deaths of seven people (without identifying information about them).
“SEDENA troops are also participating in guarding the site of the incident.
“Work was done to extinguish the fire, and risk mitigation measures were carried out to prevent possible additional damage.
“At the moment, authorities are waiting for forensic teams to proceed with the removal of the bodies and to rule out the presence of more victims.”
