The Coalition of United Political Parties, CUPP, has raised an alarm, alleging that the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and security agencies were plotting to arrest the lawmaker representing Ideato Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon Ugochinyere Michael Ikeagwuonu.

The Coalition disclosed this in a statement made available to Newspot on Thursday after a press conference in Abuja.

The Secretary-General of CUPP, Peter Ameh, and the coalition’s co-spokesman, Comrade Mark Adebayo, described the alleged plot as a grave threat to democracy. They labeled it a “clandestine scheme to defame, tarnish, and stifle the voice of one of Nigeria’s most vocal and incorruptible opposition leaders.”

CUPP further alleged that the pro-Wike faction, in collaboration with complicit security agencies, had been training fake witnesses for over six weeks in Abuja to provide false testimony against Ugochinyere.

“This is a desperate, low-budget Nollywood production whose purpose has already failed,” the Coalition said in a strongly worded statement. They emphasized that “Ikenga’s commitment to speaking truth to power is God-given and cannot be silenced by intimidation, blackmail, or false allegations.”

The coalition also announced plans for nationwide protests to resist the alleged plot.

However, as of the time of filing this report, Wike’s spokesperson, Lere Olayinka, and Nigerian security agencies are yet to respond to CUPP’s allegations.

Newspot reports that Ugochinyere has been critical of Wike, particularly regarding his role in the ongoing crisis within the opposition party, the People’s Democratic Party, PDP.
