Barely one week to Christmas, inter-state transport fares have remained stable in Kwara State despite the removal of fuel subsidy, Newspot reports.

Findings at motor parks in Ilorin, the state capital, showed that even with the Christmas and New Year festivities approaching, transport fares have remained the same from the city to other states of the country.

Chairman of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, RTEAN, Kaduna unit, Maraba Motor Park, Ilorin, Issa Akanji Busari, said passengers pay N24,000 by car to Kaduna from Ilorin, while N19,000 is charged for bus.

Zaria passengers pay N25,100, while Kano passengers pay N30,000.

According to an official in charge of Sokoto unit of the Motor Park, Rufai Azeez, a trip to Sokoto from Ilorin attracts N27,000, Ilorin to Minna N18,000, Ilorin-Kontagora N15,000, Ilorin-Birni-Kebbi, and Ilorin-Mokwa N6,000.

At the Lagos unit, the chairman Yinusa Abdul Salam disclosed that Ilorin-Lagos trip costs N9,000, Ilorin-Ibadan N5,000, and Ilorin-Abuja N23,000.

However, at the Sawmill Motor Park on Lagos road, Ilorin-Lagos passengers who travel by car pay N13,000 while Hummer bus passengers pay N10,000.

Transport union officials who spoke to Newspot in Ilorin on Wednesday, said despite the stable transport fares, intending passengers have not increased.

But they hoped that the situation will change before Christmas.

One of the officials also noted that the security situation in some parts of the northern region has improved, hence, drivers and passengers now travel with less fears on the road.
