Alan Shearer has named Elliot Anderson and Nikola Milenkovic as two candidates for best Premier League signing of the season.
Both players joined Nottingham Forest in the last summer transfer window and have shined under Nuno Espirito Santo at the City Ground this term.
Forest signed Anderson from Shearer’s beloved Newcastle United, paying £35m to bring the 22-year-old English midfielder to the East Midlands.
Anderson has been in fine form for Forest and has conjured up five assists across 15 Premier League games this season.
Meanwhile, Forest recruited Serbia international centre-back Milenkovic from Italian side Fiorentina in a bargain £12m deal.
Milenkovic has helped to strengthen Forest’s defence, with Nuno’s side having kept five clean sheets across their 16 top-flight games this term.
Premier League legend Shearer was quizzed on the latest episode of The Rest is Football podcast who he thought were among the best signings of the season as well as which club had done the best business overall.
‘You know who’s done well with transfers?’ Shearer said. ‘I think Nottingham Forest. Elliot Anderson has done really well. Nikola Milenkovic [too].’
Forest are flying in the Premier League this term and incredibly sit fourth in the table as we approach the festive period.
They are the only side to have defeated Liverpool in the top-flight this term, producing a 1-0 victory at Anfield in September.
‘We are working very hard,’ Forest boss Nuno said after their most recent Premier League win, a 2-1 victory over Aston Villa on Saturday. ‘We are working with clear plans of improvement and building the team. We are competing with all the clubs.’
Fellow football pundit Micah Richards, meanwhile, put forward Emile Smith Rowe as a third candidate for best Premier League signing of the season.
Smith Rowe joined Fulham from Arsenal for £34m in August and he has impressed under Marco Silva at Craven Cottage.
The Englishman has registered five goal involvements across 16 Premier League games for Fulham so far this season.
