About 5,000 teaching and non-teaching staff with the Adamawa State Post Primary Schools Management Board, Yola, are yet to receive their November 2024 salaries.

The 5,000 represent more than half of the workers, about 9,000 in total, who are drawing salaries under the board.

The delay in the state, where workers are usually paid their salaries on the 23rd of every month, is due to the ongoing screening exercise of workers by the Adamawa State Government.

The state Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Mohammed Abubakar, who spoke on the matter to newsmen, said some non-academic staff, including cleaners, gardeners, plumbers, and matrons, are also affected.

He said some of the affected teachers and other workers were victims of the failure to submit their certificates as requested earlier.

The NUT chairman disclosed, however, that so far, certificates of over 4,500 teachers had been submitted, and Governor Ahmadu Fintiri is expected to give a directive for the withheld salary payment.

He urged those who are yet to submit their certificates to hasten the process within the week, stressing that necessary steps have been taken to address challenges associated with the ongoing screening exercise.

He appealed to teachers to be dedicated to their duties, as they entered a contract with the government to render service and receive their wages accordingly.

Newspot recalls that Governor Fintiri had issued a directive early in October this year for all civil servants to submit their certificates for verification.

He had said that the screening was vital because many people were holding offices and drawing salaries for which they had no qualifications.

He said it was necessary to weed out unqualified civil servants not only to assure the quality of service but also to give job opportunities to young people with the required qualifications.
