Ruben Amorim claimed it was a ‘very good sign’ to see Rasmus Hojlund rowing with Manchester United team-mate Amad Diallo following the club’s Europa League win over Viktoria Plzen.

United moved into the top-eight of the Europa League group phase after beating Viktoria Plzen 2-1 on Thursday night.

Manchester United had lost their last two games going into the match and looked set for another disappointing evening when the hosts took the lead shortly after half-time following an error from Andre Onana.

But Hojlund equalised just after the hour mark and then popped up with the winner late on to complete the comeback.

Manchester United struggled to see the game out, failing to either score or waste some precious seconds with a number of counter-attacks late on.

During one attack Amad failed to find Hojlund in the box and from another Hojlund did not pass to the United winger who found room down the right flank.

Hojlund was seen yelling at Amad after the full-time whistle was blown and the pair appeared to be rowing as the players shook hands and made their way off the pitch.

Asked if he was aware of the spat, Amorim said at his post-match press conference: ‘Yes and for me it’s perfect.

‘We need to feel something. In this moment we need to feel something. For me it’s a very, very good sign.

‘If we need to fight each other, it’s like a family. We need to feel something, that’s important. When you don’t care, you do nothing. When you care, you fight with your brother, father or mother.

‘For me it’s a very good sign.’

Discussing his team’s performance, Amorim added: ‘We improved during the game. We controlled the game in the first half, but without any great chances.

‘We lacked speed and movement and we didn’t control the ball because the pitch was difficult to make the connections with the strikers. Viktoria didn’t have chances either.

‘In the second half, we gave a goal away but we reacted well. We pushed the opponents to their own half and we managed to score. The win is important at the moment and it’s good to prepare for the next game.

‘I told the players we need more movement in front because they have to feel we are a danger.

‘We changed a little bit of our game and the players from the bench also helped. We improved not just the way we play, but also the speed of the game.’

Amorim praised Hojlund and Amad after the comeback win, insisting they were both ‘improving’.

‘Rasmus is improving,’ the ex-Sporting Lisbon boss said. ‘He is more near the goal now.

‘He knows better the movement he has to do. He could score more this evening, but he is scoring, working and controlling the ball better.’

On Amad, Amorim said: ‘He can be a good player in that position. We need left-footed players in this team to play that role.

‘In the first half, he was coming for the ball too much. He needs to play near the opposition defence more. He will improve in the future for sure.’
