Niger: Gov Bago presents appropriation bill of N1.56trn for 2025

Niger State Governor Mohammed Umar Bago has presented a proposed 2025 appropriation of N1,558,887,565,358 for legislative scrutiny before the State House of Assembly.

Presenting the budget, tagged the “Budget of Hope, Sustainability, and Food Security,” the governor described it as exceptional, emphasising its role in solidifying the foundation for the state’s rapid socio-economic development.

“This budget is to reinforce the strides already achieved, which is why the 2025 Budget is titled the ‘Budget of Hope for Sustainability and Food Security.’ This title reflects our deliberate focus on ensuring a sustainable and secure future for all Nigerlites,” Bago stated.

He disclosed that the total anticipated revenue for the state in 2025 is N1,558,887,565,358, representing a 48.32 per cent increase compared to the 2024 appropriation.

The Governor explained that the budget estimate comprises N196,335,361,443 (13 per cent) for recurrent expenditure and N1,362,552,203,915 (87 per cent) for capital expenditure.

According to him: “The revenue is to be derived from the following sources: statutory allocation, N53,400,000,000; value added tax, N85,300,555,454; other FAAC receipts, N236,900,000,000; internally generated revenue, IGR, N63,360,000,000; other IGR, N186,368,241,948; and capital receipt, N933,558,767,956; [leading to a] total [of] N1,558,887,565,358. The capital receipt component, amounting to N933,558,767,956, is comprised of N493,496,681,728 in loans and N440,062,086,228 in grants.”

Furthermore, the governor noted that the proposed 2025 budget is aligned with the Economic and Fiscal Update, EFU, Fiscal Strategy Paper, FSP, and Budget Statement, BPS, 2025–2027, as passed by the government.

Responding, the Speaker of the House, Barrister Sarkindaji, commended Governor Mohammed Umar Bago for the administration’s achievements through the judicious use of funds and its efforts to improve the lives of citizens in the state.

He assured the governor of the House members’ commitment to thoroughly scrutinise and ensure the swift passage of the appropriation bill.
