Ademola Lookman says Atalanta showed they can compete against the best with their superlative display against Real Madrid.
Gian Piero Gasperini’s side lost 3-2 to the defending champions at the Gewiss Stadium on Tuesday night.
It was the reigning UEFA Europa League champions first defeat in the Champions League this season.
Lookman scored La Dea’s second goal of the game and was named Man of the Match.
The Nigerian said they can be proud of their performance in the keenly contested encounter.
“Tough game, they took their chances when they had them. We knew what type of game it would be, we were unlucky, but we have our heads held high,” he told UEFA.com.
“We are disappointed with the result because we felt we could have done more, but there is also pride.”
