A rights advocacy organization, Take It Back Movement and some activists, including Omoyele Sowore, have concluded plans to stage a nationwide protest over the arrest and incarceration of a human rights lawyer, Dele Farotimi.
Newspot recalls that the media has been awashed since Tuesday following reports of Farotimi’s arrest by officers of the Ekiti State Police Command.
The activist was accused of maligning and defaming the character of a legal luminary and founder of Afe Babalola University, Aare Afe Babalola SAN, in his recently published book, ‘Nigeria and Its Criminal Justice System’.
Farotimi was arraigned at the Magistrate Court in Ado Ekiti on Wednesday.
Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun subsequently remanded him in prison custody and adjourned the matter till December 10.
The development triggered uproar across the country, with Nigerians calling for his immediate release.
In a post on its official X handle, the Take It Back Movement revealed on Thursday that the protest has been scheduled for December 10.
According to the protest flyer, protesters will converge at the Afe Babalola Chambers in Lagos State, the Federal Ministry of Justice, Abuja, Police Headquarters Ado-Ekiti in Ekiti State, and King’s College Campus, London.
Similarly, Sowore, in a series of posts on his page, called for a global revolt against the Nigerian judiciary from December 10.
