Filmmaker, Jade Osiberu has sent a notice to her colleagues in the Nollywood industry, pleading for more strategic and collaborative works instead of speaking events in 2025.
Osiberu took to Twitter (X) to share her concerns about the replication of topics during events which doesn’t yield productive results afterward.
She begged her colleagues to plan more strategic thinking and team-building activities and to reduce speaking engagements in 2025.
When comparing the film industry to other sectors, the director pointed out that while the other sectors make more money than the entertainment sector, they don’t host as many speaking engagements.
She tweets,
“Please less speaking events next year, more strategic thinking and collaborative work. Industries wey dey make money pass us no dey do speaking event reach us sef. No be shade oo, na appeal. All the topics are the same, a majority of these conversations don’t really yield any results”.
Since it has become commonplace in the industry, tweeps have poured into the comment section, validating the filmmaker’s worry. Many claim the events are avenues to generate income by hiring well-known speakers without professional or field experience.
Below are some reactions,
@ayodelejmuyiwa As if you know what im thinking, event everywhere, big name speakers… That’s their business, that’s how they make money, from talking. Ọmọ we need actions, enough talk abeg.
@endi_ziki Someone finally spoke my mind …. DO MORE TALK LESSS …..
@diamond_dollcee Sad but true… The speaking event this year was like the AMVC Award show 2 years ago when all designers came with same styles with a slit in front. No unique thinking… Just following trends.
