An Interactive Session to Remember By Sani Musa

The FCT Commissioner of Police, Tunji Disu, recently held an engaging interactive session with journalists at the Police Officers’ Mess, Garki, Abuja. Our journalists deserve not only to be appreciated but also to be pampered and loved because they are doing a very difficult job in an increasingly challenging environment.

CP Tunji Disu’s warm and approachable personality was also on full display. Many of us present saw a different side of this celebrated crime fighter as he mingled and interacted freely with everyone present. It was, indeed, an interactive session to remember—one that will shape the collaboration between the police and journalists for years to come.

What was initially planned as a straightforward question-and-answer session evolved into a lively get-together. Ideas were exchanged, and journalists enjoyed a moment of camaraderie, sharing meals and laughter. I have never seen members of the Fourth Estate of the Realm in such high spirits.

The interactive session stemmed from the CP’s desire to partner and collaborate with journalists in the fight against crime and criminality in the Federal Capital Territory. Of course, the FCT is not unfamiliar territory for CP Tunji Disu. He has served in various capacities here, with his last posting being Principal Staff Officer to the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, before he was deployed to the Rivers State Police Command as its Commissioner of Police. There, he demonstrated exceptional leadership acumen and tackled crime effectively, even amidst political turmoil. Returning to Abuja is, therefore, more or less a homecoming for him.

The Commissioner of Police delivered a powerful and heartfelt speech. He thanked the journalists for their courageous work in safeguarding the image of the police and protecting the sanctity of the country. He also emphasized his open-door policy, encouraging them to reach out to him directly in cases of emergency. Some of the journalists present, who have known CP Tunji Disu for years, attested to his reputation as a jolly good fellow and a steadfast ally of the Fourth Estate of the Realm.

The session could not have been more timely. Nowhere in the world can the fight against crime and criminality be won without the unalloyed support and cooperation of the press. To this, I say kudos to the Commissioner of Police for fostering this great partnership.

We hope to see more of such interactive sessions in the future. They strengthen the trust and understanding between the police and the media because, as our people say, “when the cobwebs unite, they can tie up a lion.”
