1. The Senate, on Thursday, approved the $2.2 billion fresh loan request by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The decision was sequel to the consideration and adoption of a report of the committee on local and foreign debts, chaired by Senator Aliyu Wamakko (Sokoto North).

2. Three states yet to submit their positions on state police have been given a one-week ultimatum. The National Economic Council (NEC), which gave the order on Thursday after its 146th meeting, explained that the Council will take its decision on the creation of state police next month.

3. The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) on Thursday described the arrest of the self-proclaimed Prime Minister of the Biafra Republic Government In-Exile, Simon Ekpa as a key victory in the anti-terror war. It stated that his apprehension by Finnish authorities indicated that the international community was in synergy with Nigeria in its efforts to end terrorism.

4. The House of Representatives yesterday rejected a proposed constitutional amendment to provide for a six-year single term for the President and governors across the federation, as well as local government chairmen. The Bill also aimed to provide for the division of the country into six geopolitical zones and rotation of the Presidency and governorship seats inherent in regions and zones.

5. Former Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar says the loans being taken by the present administration is putting “insufferable” pressure on the country’s economy. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate in the last election while accusing the National Assembly of becoming an accomplice, said Nigeria is sinking further in debt.

6. The Arewa Consultative Forum on Thursday suspended its chairman, Mamman Osuman following widespread reactions across the country, after the northern body’s criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s policies.

7. Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State, on Thursday, reunited 76 minors arrested in connection with the #Endbadgovernance protest in the state with their parents. The governor represented by his Chief of Staff, Shehu Sagagi handed over the minors, who underwent rehabilitation for over one week at the Muhammadu Buhari Specialist hospital in Kano after their release from detention in Abuja.

8. The Naira on Thursday depreciated to N1,745 per dollar in the parallel market from N1,740 per dollar on Wednesday. But the Naira appreciated to N1,658.67 per dollar in the Nigerian Autonomous Foreign Exchange Market, NAFEM.

9. The Court of Appeal in Abuja has nullified the judgement that barred the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, from releasing voters register to the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, RSIEC, for the conduct of local government elections held in the state on October 5.

10. The Senate has confirmed the appointment of Ms Omolola Oloworaran as the Director-General (D-G) of the National Pension Commission (PenCom). This is contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the Head, PenCom, Corporate Communications, Mr Ibrahim Buwai in Abuja. He said that the confirmation follows the consideration and adoption of the report of the Senate Committee on Establishment and Public Service at plenary.
