The Ogun State Police Command has warned citizens and politicians who intend to use thugs to intimidate and sabotage the local government elections to desist from such acts and remain in their homes
The command spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, gave the warning on Friday in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital.
Newspot reports that the local government elections are scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 16, across the 20 local government areas of the state.
Odutola while hinting about the command’s preparedness towards the election said, security strategies have been placed around the state to ensure compliance with law and order during the election process.
She revealed that operatives of the command are adequately equipped to crack down on troublemakers and gun runners, adding anyone or groups with nefarious intent to cause mayhem will be arrested and prosecuted.
Odutola advised members of the public to cooperate with the process and refrain from acts such as snatching of ballot boxes, election violence and utterances capable of inciting violence.
She said, ” Following the announcement and fixed date by the independent electoral commission, the Commissioner of Police, CP Alamutu Abidodun Mustapha has placed security strategies around the state to ensure compliance with law and order during the election process.
“Restriction has been placed between 6 a.m to about 3 p.m. across Ogun State to ensure a seamless voting process. Movement has been initiated to control commercial transporters of all sorts to comply with the process.
“Ineligibility by registration or other reasons who may deploy thuggery, intimidation, disruption are advised to stay away from all fields and remain in their homes.
The spokesperson also advised politicians to avoid inflammatory and condescending statements that may trigger resentment at polling stations.
