The Adamawa State Government has announced the procurement of large quantities of anti-snake venom for distribution to some earmarked hospitals.

The antivenom is meant for free administering to victims who currently face difficulty getting the medicine at affordable cost.

The state Commissioner of Health and Human Services, Felix Tangwami revealed this in Yola on Friday.

The health commissioner expressed the government’s commitment to reinvigorating the health sector by all means, including interventions such as the provision of free anti-snake venum.

Newspot recalls that the Federal Government confirmed recently that at least 20,000 cases of snake bites and resulting 2,000 deaths are recorded across the country yearly.

The government also confirmed that while Gombe State, an Adamawa neighbourhood, has the highest record of snakebites in Nigeria, Adamawa is one of the states with high cases of snakebites.

in June last year, the management of the Modibbo Adama University, Yola, had a tough time calming members of the public when in a particularly touching story, a student died after a snake bite at the campus.
