Kebbi State Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida, on Tuesday dismissed reports that villages in the northern parts of the state are under bandits’ control, labelling these claims as mere imagination from online news sources.
He emphasised that the state government has fortified security across communities to prevent any security breaches.
Addressing journalists in Birnin Kebbi, Senator Tafida recalled an incident in Mera village, Augie Local Government Area, where bandits tragically killed 17 youths who bravely confronted the attackers.
Despite this loss, the defenders inflicted serious injuries on some of the gunmen.
Senator Tafida assured Kebbi residents of the government’s commitment to their safety, urging citizens to collaborate with security forces to eliminate banditry and other criminal activities.
He reaffirmed that the administration, under Governor Idris Nasir, would continue to implement effective strategies to protect all residents.
