Actress Jemima Osunde lambasted an X user for complaining about the frequent appearance of the same actors in Nollywood movies.
After the actress shared a movie poster on her X platform, a conversation ensued between Jemima and the Internet critic.
The X user identified as @95andbeyond expressed frustration over the repetition of actors in the movie industry. “I’m sincerely tired of seeing the same faces in this damn industry,” the X user wrote.
Osunde immediately defended the Nollywood industry, saying that @95andbeyond should be fired from work because of their constant presence.
Enioluwa, the actress’s coworker, intervened and confirmed that the industry currently cannot support many new faces on-screen. He pointed out that actors can’t afford to act in one film yearly due to their minimal profits following a production.
He tweeted,
“People often say they’re tired of seeing the same faces in Nigerian films.
However, unlike in Hollywood, actors in Nigeria can’t afford to do just one film a year— how much are they paying.
The industry currently can’t support as many newcomers as people might expect because, realistically, many of them wouldn’t be able to meet even their basic needs. No one wants to be famous and financially unstable”.
