The Governors of Criss River State and Akwa Ibom, Bassey Otu and Umo Eno, have called on clergymen and religious leaders in Nigeria to emphasise patriotism in their preaching to adherents.
Both stressed importance of citizens believing in and underscoring patriotism for advancement of the nation rather than disparaging her.
They stressed that religious leaders hold the ace in nurturing and advancing love for country and genuine tribal unification in the country.
The two governors spoke at an event in Calabar, capital of Cross River State, where the installation of national publicity Secretary of Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, PFN, Emmah Isong as an Archbishop, was celebrated.
Governor Eno said, “Clergymen are front leaders and should help propagate and underscore importance of patriotism in driving Nigeria’s advancement.
“Religious leaders, especially Christian leaders must help spread the gospel of patriotism.”
As a cleric himself, Pastor Eno stressed that cultivating a sense of national pride and responsibility is essential for the country’s progress.
On his part, Governor Otu said the host, Archbishop Emmah Isong has helped to nurture men and women to realise the importance of nationhood.
According to him, “God has used Archbishop Isong to bless Cross River State in numerous ways. He has guided our men and women toward God’s path and to be patriotic.”
To show gratitude, Gov Otu also announced the reappointment of Archbishop Isong as Chairman of the Cross River State anti-tax agency, renewing his role from the previous administration.
Venerable clerics, political elites, traditional leaders, members of the press and numerous guests had witnessed the celebration of Isong as an Archbishop.
