…Poland Plays Goalless Draw with Brazil to Earn Quarterfinal Ticket.
Japan on Wednesday night at the Santo Domingo slammed Africa’s Coffee Girls of Zambia 4-1 to zoom into the quarterfinals of the world U17 female football tournament in Dominican Republic.
Miharu got a brace scoring the first goal in the 6th and 69th minutes; Momo Sato scored the 2nd goal from the penalty spot making her goals haul two having scored in the 2-1 victory over Brail and Sakaki got Mitsuki Ota in the 86th minute to register the 4th goal.
Zambia’s only goal of the tournament was an own goal from Haruko Suzuki in the 86th minute and Zambia’s Coach, Mwape Bruce was glad the nation will be going back home with a goal to their credit.
Brazil was so unlucky to have played a goalless draw with Poland having dominated the game but tactical discipline gave the game to Poland.
Brazil was busy playing to the gallery as usual banging 23-6 shots at goal with 3-1 on target, stringing 324-251 passes in their tiki-taka style with 58-42% ball possession and 8-4 corner kicks advantage.
The Polish girls concentrated on defensive strategy winning 66-16 tacles; having made 26-22 clearances with 7-4 blockings and the Polish goalkeeper had 5-1 saves.
Japan won Group D with 7 points scoring 6 goals and conceding 2 goals; Poland tumbled to 2nd position with 5 points scoring 2 goals and conceding no goal;; Brazil maintained 3rd with 4 points scoring 2 goals and conceding 2 goals while Zambia is 4th with no point 1 goal and conceding 7 goals.
Poland will now face the runners up of group C in the 2nd quarterfinal at midnight of Saturday while Japan will face the winner of Group C at midnight of Sunday.
At midnight of Wednesday, all the group C matches will end with Mexico playing Kenya and England tackling North Korea.
The Copper Princesses were making their second appearances at the tournament as the team was sent out at the group stages in 2014 when the team lost 0-2 to Italy; blown 4-0 by Venezuela and only defeated Costa Rica 2-1. In this tournament, Zambia lost 0-2 to Poland and got piped by Brazil by a lone goal.
The Little Nadeshiko of Japan had won the title once in their 7 appearances which was in 2014; got the Silver medal twice in 2010 and 2016; and made quarterfinal stages four times in 2008; 2012; 2018 and 2022. In this tournament, Japan had played goalless with Poland and lost 1-2 to the Samba Girls of Brazil.
Nigeria will play the first quarterfinal against USA on Saturday at 8:30 pm going back to the stadium of their first two matches at Santiago de los Cabelleros while Ecuador will test might against Spain in the 3rd quarterfinal on Sunday by 8:30 pm at Santiago Domino.
