Scrapping of Niger Delta Ministry: Oil Communities Hail Tinubu’s Decision
Oil-producing communities in the Niger Delta region have praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s decision to scrap the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, aligning with long-standing calls from some stakeholders in the region.
Joseph Ambakaderimo, Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Community Development Committee (CDC) of the oil and gas-producing areas, expressed his joy over the decision on Wednesday. He welcomed the Federal Executive Council’s move to scrap the ministry, stating, “I received the news with utmost joy and excitement
Ambakaderimo noted that the Ministry of Niger Delta Development had largely duplicated the roles of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), with both agencies having overlapping functions and little to show for the ministry’s existence over the past 12 years. He referenced the Steve Oronsaye Rationalisation Committee report, which had long called for the restructuring of government agencies.
