Business owners and some residents of Osogbo, the Osun State capital have begun to lament the blackout that has hit the town since Monday night.
The business owners lamented that the blackout and the high cost of obtaining fuel have made them lose income.
They also lamented that despite paying high electricity bills, they prefer to have light than service disruptions.
Newspot recalls that the national grid collapsed at exactly 6:58 pm on Monday night.
The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, IBEDC together with other DISCOs in statements revealed that as a result of the blackout resulting from the national grid collapse, several customers under their franchise will be affected.
Mojirade Alawode, a cold room owner, said she has had to switch to a generating set to fill the void caused by the blackout.
She said, “I have four freezers in my shop that need electricity to keep functioning and in these freezers are my goods which by their nature must remain cold.
“They are perishable food items and the low temperature is needed to preserve them or else I will end up losing money and my goods.
“I am in a Band A area in Osogbo and I must confess to you that running my business on electricity is cheaper than on fuel.”
Another resident, Adekunle Ojo said he is considering solar energy as an option since the national grid issue is becoming a recurrent dilemma.
“In my area, the light has been bad and this national grid collapse has just made it worse. We are in Band B and truly, it seems we have been forgotten with regards to electricity supply even in this same Osun.”
A business centre owner, Henry Omoye told Newspot that he has been running on alternative electricity supply since he opened for business today.
“I pray this grid issue is resolved. The cost of fuel in October is not the same as the time we had a grid collapse last.
“Things are expensive now, especially the cost of fuel, but there is a need for me to run my business. If I do not run it, I will not be able to meet the needs of members of my family.
“Government should come to our aid, there is a need to do something very fast.”
Newspot gathered that the location of the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, National Control Centre, NCC, in Osogbo has made it possible for residents to enjoy a limited electricity supply.
