The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), announced on its X handle that the national grid collapsed at 6:58pm.on Monday 14 October.
Nigeria was plunged into darkness on Monday as the national grid suffered another devastating collapse.
Emeka Ezeh, Enugu Electricity Distribution Company’s spokesperson, confirmed the incident in a statement, revealing the collapse occurred at 18:48 hours.
The general system failure led to a widespread power outage across the company’s coverage area.
“The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC) wishes to inform her esteemed customers of a general system collapse that occurred at 18:48 hours today, 14th October 2024.
This has resulted in the loss of supply currently being experienced across the EEDC network.
Consequently, due to this development, all our interface TCN stations are out of supply, and we are unable to provide services to our customers in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo States.
“We are on standby awaiting detailed information of the collapse and restoration of supply from the National Control Centre (NCC), Osogbo”, he said.
Eko Distribution Company also verified the grid collapse, stating, “Dear Valued Customer, “Kindly be informed there was a system collapse at 18:48hrs which has resulted to a loss of power supply across our network.
The company assured customers they are working with partners to expedite restoration.
“We will keep you updated as soon as power supply is restored. Kindly bear with us.”
Power interruption was noticed around 6:50 pm on Monday.
In August 2024, the grid experienced a partial collapse, causing widespread blackouts.
This marks the second grid collapse in recent months, following another incident in July.
Data from the Transmission Company of Nigeria reveals approximately 227 national grid collapses in the past 14 years.
The frequent outages come amidst a 240% electricity tariff hike in April, exacerbating Nigerians’ hardship.
