The coalition of northern civil society organisations said that the ongoing military offensive against bandits and insurgents terrorising parts of the northern region has brought hope to the people.
In a statement on Sunday by its convener, Alhaji Usman Usman, the coalition stated that the efforts of the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu and the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, to eliminate bandits and other criminal elements in the region are yielding good fruit.
The statement particularly thanked the Nigerian military for eliminating a known terrorist kingpin, Mai Hijabi.
Newspot recalls that the Defence Headquarters had on Thursday said that the notorious terrorist kingpin in Jigawa was killed in an operation conducted during the week.
The Director, Defence Media Operations, Maj. Gen. Edward Buba, who disclosed this while briefing journalists on the activities of the troops during the week, also stated that a total of 165 terrorists were killed and 238 suspects were arrested in the North.
Excited by the developments, the coalition urged the defence minister and the NSA to sustain the fight against terrorism in the region.
“To Ribadu and Matawalle, we say, do not relent. Your work brings hope,” Usman said.
